Michael shares his recovery story with us: “I started using when I was 18 because of my mother passing away,” he tells us. “She passed on Halloween Oct. 31, 2000, and we buried her 4 days later, on my birthday, and that was the first time I had taken medication. For the next 13 years I struggled with the disease of addiction. I eventually landed in drug court, where I was finally able to get clean.” Michael then worked as assistant manager at a local Hardware store until 2018 and parted ways with the business to go back to school to get a criminal justice degree. Now, he works at our Williamson Recovery Center, at the very place where everything begun for him, the hospital, Williamson  Memorial Hospital, where his mother passed away. “This is my calling in life, and I couldn’t be happier to help others with this disease,” he shares.
