Telemedicine

Telemedicine, also called telehealth, uses the significant advances in technology to ensure that no one is outside the reach of qualified care for substance use disorders (SUDs). When appropriate, our facilities use telemedicine to connect you with local clinicians and healthcare providers. Electronic devices can help you get the care you need even when you cannot physically visit a rehabilitation facility or doctor’s office. You can use the following methods of communication:

  • Phone
  • Video
  • Text
  • Online Chat
  • Email
  • File Exchange
  • Electronic Monitoring Device

If someone cannot meet face-to-face with a doctor or other member of their clinical team or the appointment does not warrant the trip, then telemedicine provides an excellent alternative. The technology allows you to send and receive messages, get live support, and even provide status updates about your health using monitoring devices. Many free apps and websites exist to facilitate telehealth. The practice of using remote medical services is now widespread, and we intend to incorporate it into our network of facilities.

How We Use Telemedicine

We can monitor and conduct some aspects of the treatment process over secured telecommunication devices like smartphones, tablets, and computers. The option to use technology for substance use disorder is ideal for:

  • Admissions prescreen and assessment
  • Medication management
  • Case management
  • Individual therapy
  • Medical check-ins
  • Aftercare services

Who Can Use Telemedicine?

Telemedicine is convenient because anyone with an internet connection can use the service. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), “Telehealth has the potential to address the treatment gap, making treatment services more accessible and convenient, improving health outcomes, and reducing health disparities.” Many video and chat sites for telehealth services have one-click access to simplify the process. We use this practical form for communicating to make it easier to connect with people who may have difficulty making an in-person appointment due to:

  • Mental or physical health concerns
  • Transportation issues
  • Difficulty getting time off from work, school, or other responsibilities
