Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) in Laconia, New Hampshire
When you need a full day of treatment and have a safe and stable home environment, our partial hospitalization program offers the perfect mix of support and independence.
Partial hospitalization (PHP) is one level down from residential treatment. As a patient in our PHP program, you receive six hours of evidence-based treatment per day, five days per week. Patients in our PHP program may live at home or in a recovery-friendly, sober living facility.
This program is appropriate when you require a full day of treatment for a substance use or co-occurring mental health disorder, but don’t want to – or cannot – live full-time at our residential location. You collaborate with our clinical staff to create a customized, integrated treatment plan that includes individual, group, and family therapy, addiction education workshops, community support, and our full range of case management and aftercare services. Your plan is adaptable, and changes as you grow in recovery to accommodate new needs as they arise.
What is Partial Hospitalization Treatment?
Partial hospitalization is like residential treatment, with one major difference: when you participate in a PHP program, you live at home or in a sober living facility rather than on-site at our treatment facility. You receive our full suite of treatment services, which means a PHP program may be appropriate even if your symptoms are severe, disruptive, and you require a significant amount of time in immersive treatment.
All PHP programs include:
A full biopsychosocial assessment
Comprehensive medical evaluation
Medication review and management
Screening and treatment for co-occurring disorders and history of trauma
Personalized case management
A safe, comfortable healthy healing environment
Time to think, reflect, and recover
Case Management and Aftercare support
The goal of our PHP program is to teach you practical skills to help you regulate your emotions, cope with the symptoms or your substance use and/or co-occurring mental health disorder, and prepare you for everyday life after treatment. We customize your treatment plan to give you the tools you need to thrive in independent recovery. You collaborate with your treatment team and recovery peers to meet your treatment goals. We support you every step of the way, because your overall health and wellness is our top priority.
What Happens During Partial Hospitalization Treatment?
During a PHP program at kathy ireland® Recovery Centers, you receive close to a full day of evidence-based treatment and support for substance use or co-occurring disorders, five days a week, but live off-site at home or in a recovery friendly sober living facility.
You’re not in residential treatment, but you spend your days completely engaged in immersive treatment with our top-notch treatment team and your recovery peers. In some cases, you participate in community support groups or recovery activities in the evening, but not often. Of course, we encourage all participants in our PHP programs to attend community support groups in the evening: if you have the energy, peer support programs offer a unique opportunity to meet people from all walks of life, all at different stages of recovery.
One advantage of PHP is the fact you’re not in treatment in the evening. You have the benefits of living at home – independence, contact with loved ones, home-cooked meals, sleeping in your own bed – as well as the benefits engaging in the type of immersive treatment that’s typically only available in a residential program.
Many clients choose PHP because they want the benefits of living at home. If you need immersive treatment, but need to live at home, then PHP might offer you the best of both worlds, and increase your likelihood of achieving sustainable recovery.
At the PHP level of care, your personalized, integrated, treatment plan will include a combination of the following therapeutic approaches:
Psychotherapy:
Individual therapy
Group therapy
Family therapy
Medication-assisted treatment (MAT):
For patients in detox from:
Alcohol
Opioids
Ongoing medication for patients with:
Opioid use disorder (OUD)
Alcohol use disorder (AUD)
Experiential Therapy:
Yoga
Mindfulness
Meditation
Expressive Therapy:
Music
Art
Writing/journaling
Community and Peer Support Groups
Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)
Narcotics Anonymous (NA)
You and your treatment team learn which approaches work best for you, then modify your treatment plan based on your progress. Your plan can change as you learn and grow in recovery: like you, your plan is adaptable and resilient.
Case Management and Aftercare Services
The time you spend in your PHP program is the start of a journey that lasts a lifetime. When you complete our program, it’s a beginning, rather than an end. It’s the start of a process that restores balance and gives you the tools you need to live a life of your choosing, rather than a life dictated by the symptoms of a substance use or co-occurring mental health disorder.
Case management and aftercare are essential elements of treatment at kathy ireland® Recovery Centers. You’re not alone during your PHP program, and you won’t be alone when you complete your PHP program.
Your case manager will be by your side to advocate on your behalf the entire time. They use information we collect during the intake and assessment process to guide treatment planning, monitor treatment progress, and plan appropriate support services. Your case manager will learn about your:
Treatment history and preferences
Goals for recovery
Specific cultural, religious, or social needs
Motivations for recovery
They use that information to tailor your treatment program while you’re with us, but more importantly, they’ll use what they learn to craft your ongoing sobriety and aftercare plan.
The Importance of Aftercare: Improved Outcomes
An intentional, high-quality, comprehensive aftercare plan reduces your risk of relapse. Your case manager will provide referrals to the private and community-based resources you need for successful, long-term recovery. The more resources and support you have upon discharge, the easier it will be to stay on track and achieve long-term sobriety.
Our case managers work with you to tailor your aftercare plan to meet your individual needs. If you step-down from PHP to a less immersive level of care, your case manager may arrange a referral for:
Intensive outpatient treatment programs (IOP)
Outpatient treatment programs (OP)
Telehealth: OP programs may happen virtually or via a safe and secure video platform
If you finish any treatment program at any level of care and are ready to live independently, your case manager may provide referrals for the following:
Vocational training and assistance
Programs and support related to housing instability
Programs and support related to food instability
Individual or group psychotherapy
12-Step or other peer support/community support meetings
Primary care doctors
Community health centers
When you complete a treatment program and take your first steps toward independence, you may feel like you’re walking a tightrope without a net.
The goal of case management and aftercare is to provide a net.
The purpose of the net is not necessarily to catch you if you fall, but rather, to give you the confidence you need to put one foot in front of the other, one day at a time, when you leave the structured treatment environment. We want you to you feel safe and secure with every step you take. As time passes, your confidence grows, and you realize you’re no longer on a tightrope: you’re on solid ground you created through your hard work, commitment, and belief in a better future.
