Laconia, New Hampshire – Outpatient

Our Laconia, NH outpatient drug treatment program functions as a bridge from residential treatment to independent living, or as an entry point for initiating treatment for a substance use and/or mental health disorder. You can step down from a more immersive level of care to an outpatient program, or step up to a more immersive level of care from an outpatient program.

At our Laconia, NH program, our experienced, compassionate team of drug and alcohol counselors apply an integrated, holistic approach to treatment. We treat the whole person, not just the symptoms of the disorder. We create a custom treatment plan based on your individual physical, emotional, and psychological needs, designed to maximize your strengths and start you on the road to sustainable, lifelong recovery.

Outpatient Treatment Programs in Laconia, NH

At our Laconia facility, we offer the following levels of care:

Intensive Outpatient Program
(IOP)

3 hours of evidence-based treatment per day, 5 days a week. This can be done at our facility or via our virtual evening IOP program.

Outpatient Treatment Program
(OP)

Treatment hours & frequency determined by you & your treatment team

Mental Health Counseling

We now treat individuals with mental health disorders as their primary diagnosis. Treatment may include psychiatric assessments, medication management and psychotherapy.

At the outpatient level of care – partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, or outpatient – your personalized, integrated, treatment plan will include a combination of the following therapeutic approaches:

  • Psychotherapy
  • Experiential Therapies
  • Expressive Therapies
  • Community and Peer Support Groups

We also use medication-assisted treatment (MAT) when medically necessary for patients in recovery from opioid use disorder (OUD) and/or alcohol use disorder (AUD).

Comprehensive Support for Lifelong Recovery

Every patient in our outpatient treatment programs participates in our thorough Prescreen and Assessment process. Our clinical team gathers all the information relevant to your treatment and recovery, including:

  • Personal medical history
  • Family medical history
  • Personal substance use history
  • Mental health disorder history
  • Substance use treatment history
  • Mental health treatment history

Once we learn who you are and what you need – and you identify your personal goals for treatment – we design a plan that gives you the best chance of a successful recovery. Your plan covers you while you’re with us, and also includes critical case management and aftercare services that support you after you complete your formal treatment program.

Kelly Schoonover, MS, LCMHC, MLADC
Clinical Director

Kelly is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) and Master Licensed Alcohol & Drug Counselor (MLADC) in the state of New Hampshire. She received her master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from the University at Albany, SUNY. Kelly has over 7 years of professional experience working with adults with severe mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders. She has worked as a clinician and clinical director in residential programs, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and outpatient settings.  She makes sure to use a person-centered approach with the clientele she works with, as no single approach works for all. Kelly loves spending as much time as possible with her family and her dog. She’s always open to doing anything outdoors that allows her to move her body. And she’ll never say no to tacos!

 

Joey Ferguson
Director of Business Development & Patient Access

Joey started his professional addiction career by helping to develop and launch a mindfulness-based treatment center called Jacobs Ladder, which is featured in Netflix documentary “Recovery Boys.” Joey has traveled both internationally and locally to participate in screenings and community discussions on substance use disorder and treatment. Joey helped develop the collegiate recovery at West Virginia University where he served as a graduate assistant in their program. He helped WVU Medicine develop a detox and residential treatment center called the Center for Hope and Healing, which is open and operational in Morgantown, WV. During his time at WVU, Joey spoke for the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation and various other organizations. Joey has work experience with nationally renowned treatment programs and serves individuals needing treatment on the front lines. Joey has been with the ki®RC–Williamson team from inception to opening.

Wendy Hanley
Outreach Coordinator

Wendy is kathy ireland® Recovery Centers’ Outreach Coordinator. Serving in the recovery field for more than four years, her journey in helping others started with her work with the homeless whom she provided warm meals and clothing to during the cold, winter months. Wendy enjoys traveling, boating, and enjoying the ocean with her husband, Tom. Together, they have four daughters, three of whom live in NH and one who lives in Virginia. She is very passionate about helping everyone and is very active, and beloved member of our community, where she regularly volunteers.

Sarah Mazzola
Nurse Practitioner

Sarah Mazzola has Master’s of Nursing from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and a Bachelor’s of Nursing from Simmons College in Boston, MA. With over 10 years of nursing experience, Sarah Mazzola has experience in-patient, outpatient and in the community. Most recently, she has worked in private practice and various in-patient psychiatric settings on the seacoast of NH and MA. She recently moved to Laconia with her husband and three children to be closer to family. Sarah has a passion for dual diagnosis and adolescent mental health and is excited to work with the team at Laconia and is excited to start prescribing Sublocade!

John (Jack) Dunn
Clinical Therapist

Jack is a a graduate of Capella University with a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and did his fieldwork in child and adult partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs in several states. He splits his time between a community mental health agency and kathy ireland® Recovery Centers in Laconia, New Hampshire. He enjoys seeing clients find recovery and better themselves; “that’s the best part of the work,” he shares.. He lives in the White mountains with his wife and 4 children.

Karen McClain
Certified Clinical Medical Assistant

Karen is our Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) at Laconia. She received her degree certification from West Virginia Junior College in Morgantown, WV in 2017. Shortly after, she moved to New Hampshire with her husband and daughter.

She loves collecting candles, battery/solar candles, and purses/handbags/totes. She also enjoys spending ample time with her husband and daughter.

Lauren Jones
Community Liaison

Lauren is the community liaison for kathy ireland® Recovery Center in Laconia, including our Sober Living Home in Laconia, NH. She is originally from southern West Virginia. Lauren is in recovery and dedicates her time to not only bettering herself more every day but also assuring her fellow house leaders and clients do the same as well. She has completed Recovery Coach courses and now is enrolled full-time at Southern New Hampshire University where she studies Psychology with a concentration in Addictions. Her main goal is to help be the change that she wants to see in the world and continue to help people become the best versions of themselves.
